Columbia, S. C. – After eight rounds of qualifying, the University of South Carolina men’s golf team finalized the five-man squad for its first tournament of the 2002-03 season at the Cleveland Golf Kiawah Island Collegiate in Charleston, S.C.

Qualifying for the Cleveland Golf Kiawah Collegiate were coaches’ pick, Martin Rominger, low 4 qualifiers, Eirik Johansen, Jake Thompson, Scott Feaster and Alex Hamilton and 5th qualifier for the individual spot, Nash Elliott. This week’s lineup includes one newcomer, three sophomores and one senior.

Nash Elliot eagled the last hole in the final round of qualifying to shoot 73 and clinch a spot in the top six, and at the time, to possibly get in the starting lineup. Scott Feaster birdied the last hole to jump one stroke ahead of Elliot to secure the final spot in the lineup.

Joining Elliot and Feaster are sophomores Martin Rominger, Jake Thompson, Alex Hamilton and newcomer Eirik Johansen.

Old Field, Old Tabby Links, Columbia Country Club, Northwoods Golf Club, the University Club and Windemere Golf Club were hosts to the Gamecocks’ qualifying rounds.

The Cleveland Golf Kiawah Island Collegiate is a two-day tournament beginning on Monday, Sept. 9, with the practice round on Sunday, Sept. 8.
