COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s tennis team (2-0) hosts Georgia Tech (2-0) Saturday at 1 p.m. ET at the USC Indoor Fieldhouse. South Carolina is led by 42nd-ranked Diego Cubas who had a successful 11-1 effort this fall and opened dual match play with a pair of victories. A fan celebration is planned for Saturday’s match with pizza and soda provided, and the first 100 fans will receive a South Carolina Men’s Tennis t-shirt.
The 52nd-ranked Gamecocks look to continue their successful spring campaign coming off a season-opening doubleheader sweep of Troy (7-0) and Wofford (6-1) last Saturday. Cubas along with Ivan Cressoni and Johannes Pulsfort all went 2-0 in singles.
Georgia Tech comes into the match ranked No. 58 in the country after beginning its spring season with wins over USC Upstate and Wofford. The Yellow Jackets are led by Guillermo Gomez, who is ranked No. 14 in the country, and by freshman Kevin King (ranked No. 29 in the Mideast Region).
This is 33rd time these teams have matched up against each other with South Carolina leading the series 26-7. The Yellow Jackets have won three of the last five, however, including the most recent meeting, a 5-2 decision last season in Atlanta.
