Columbia, S.C.- Junior transfer Ricky Quest and freshman Ryan Deter each scored two goals in No. 13 South Carolina’s home opener against Charleston Southern, elevating USC to a 4-1 over the Buccaneers on Friday evening at Stone Stadium. South Carolina improves to 1-0, while Charleston Southern drops to 0-1.

With just eight minutes off the clock, Quest knocked in a cross from Willis Forko scoring the first goal of the match. USC held a 1-0 lead for six minutes before a foul on South Carolina resulted in a Charleston Southern penalty kick. On CSU’s penalty kick, Loren McLean slipped the ball past USC’s goalkeeper, Michael Bachmeyer, tying the game at 1-1.

In the start of the second half, Quest tallied his second goal of the match off an assist by Jordan Smith. Quest’s header in the 61st minute gave USC 2-1 lead.

The Gamecocks scored two insurance goals in the final 16 minutes of the match with the help of Deter. Deter netted his first of two goals at 73:48, off a pass from Anthony Stovall. His second goal was an unassisted bullet from 15 yards out, giving South Carolina a 4-1 victory over the Charleston Southern Buccaneers.

South Carolina dominated the match with 22 shots, while Charleston Southern tallied two.

The Gamecocks return to Stone Stadium on Sept 2 at 2:00 p.m. when they host the Jacksonville Dolphins.
