COLUMBIA, S.C. — Kim Miller from the South Carolina women’s soccer team has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week.
Kim Miller did as an individual what no other team as a whole has been able to do in Arkansas’s previous 17 games – score two first half goals against the Razorbacks. Miller proved to be deadly on set pieces against Arkansas, scoring the games first goal in the 15th minute off a free kick. She scored her second goal in the 37th by bending a corner kick into the net. In all effectiveness, Miller in essence scored three goals in the first half off set pieces with a corner kick in the 17th minute also bending into the net but nullified due to an offsides call.
The multi-goal game was the first of Miller’s career and moves her to 10 points on the year with four goals and two assists, putting her second on the team in points and goals. Miller’s goals ended a three-game South Carolina scoreless streak, the longest for Carolina since the 2001 season. A defensive midfielder for Carolina, the team captain was a main reason Carolina clinched a berth in the SEC tournament with the Arkansas win and 0-0 draw against #13 LSU. Miller and the defense limited LSU to only four shots in the game, the lowest output of the season for the SEC’s most potent offensive attack. It marked the second time this year Carolina has limited an SEC opponent to four shots as Carolina dominated possession against the Tigers.
