COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina midfielder Kayla Grimsley was named to the Soccer America and Soccer Buzz Elite Teams of the Week Tuesday, the third and fourth honors for the freshman this week after also earning SEC Offensive Player of the Week and TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week nods following a strong weekend of play at the Auburn Soccer Classic.
The two national honors cap a strong week for Grimsley who has been the catalyst for the awakened South Carolina offense that has scored six goals in its last three games after opening the season with just three goals in its first four games.
Grimsley scored two goals for the Gamecocks this weekend, hitting the game-winner in the 87th minute against Marquette and scoring the second goal in the 26th minute against No. 7 Florida State. She is riding a three-game scoring streak and leads the team with three goals and six points.
No. 22 South Carolina (5-0-2) puts its undefeated record on the line when it returns home next Friday to host East Tennessee State University (2-3-0) for a 7 p.m. match at Stone Stadium. Carolina then closes out the non-conference portion of the schedule with a road trip to Western Carolina for a 2 p.m. match on Sunday.
