COLUMBIA, S.C. – Four South Carolina women’s soccer players were named to the 2007 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-South region team, the association announced. Seniors Laura Armstrong (Greenwood, S.C.), Erin Sullivan (Augusta, Ga.), and Lindsay Thorstenson (Marietta, Ga.) along with junior Mary Worthen (Morehead, N.C.) each earned NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-South region honorable mention honors.
Armstrong, who has a 3.57 GPA in mechanical engineering, is an honorable mention selection for the second consecutive year. She sits tied atop the South Carolina school records for shutouts in a season (7) and career (15). Her 0.82 career goals against average is third best in the history of the Southeastern Conference while her mark of 0.49 this season was a program-best and ranked ninth nationally. Armstrong, a two-time Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Season honoree, has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll every season and was an SEC All-Tournament team selection in 2006.

Sullivan carries a 3.83 GPA in advertising and was named a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American this season. A midfielder, she played a critical role in Carolina’s success this season, ending the regular season ranked in the top 10 in the conference in points, goals, assists, shots on goal and game-winning goals. She was a NSCAA Scholar All-South region second team member in 2006 and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll every season.
Thorstenson, who has a 3.7 GPA in anthropology, this season became the first Gamecock to earn NSCAA and Soccer America National Player of the Week honors after becoming the first goalkeeper to ever shutout perennial power North Carolina in a home opener. She finished her career third on the South Carolina all-time goaltending list with nine shutouts and a 1.33 goals against average.
Worthen sports a perfect 4.0 GPA in biology and was a regular starter at forward this season. She currently sits in the NCAA record books courtesy of a goal 14 seconds into a match at Ole Miss in 2005, marking the 14th fastest goal scored in NCAA Division I soccer history. Worthen has been a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll every season at South Carolina.
