Dec. 10, 2007

COLUMBIA – South Carolina junior forward Demetress Adams earned Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors for the period ending Dec. 9, the league announced today. Adams posted double-doubles in the Gamecocks’ two games last week, including a near triple-double against Jackson State.

Adams opened the week with an 11-point, 11-rebound effort against Charleston Southern on Tuesday night. She shot 5-of-8 from the field and swiped four steals. Three nights later she fell just two assists shy of a triple-double against Jackson State as she handed out a team- and career-high eight assists along with 12 points and a career-high tying 13 rebounds.

The team leader in both points and rebounds, Adams is among the SEC’s top 10 in both categories. Her 13.6 points per game is 10th-best in the league, while her 8.8 rebounds rank ninth. She has been the team’s leading rebounder in six games this season, including both last week, and reached double-figures in points in all nine outings.

Adams and the Gamecocks are in the midst of their exam break this week before returning to the court at No. 2 Connecticut on Mon., Dec. 17, at 7:30 p.m. Carolina returns to the Colonial Center on Wed., Dec. 19, for a 4:45 p.m. tipoff against Alabama A&M as part of a men’s/women’s doubleheader that night.
