Palo Alto, CA – The Gamecock track and field teams completed a successful run at the 2002 USATF Outdoor Championships, with USC volunteer coach Allen Johnson and former Gamecock Terrence Trammell finishing 1-2 in the men’s 110m hurdles title.

“We had a wonderful meet,” said USC Head Coach Curtis Frye. “So many of our athletes, whether they were college-aged or juniors, they really stepped up. They didn’t back down from the challenge. We leave Stanford with our heads held high because we competed, but we are also humble because we have room for improvement. We had a number of individuals make Team USA’s World Junior Championship team and Allen Johnson will represent the Gamecock family at the World Cup in Spain in September.”

Johnson ran a 13.08 to win his third straight 110m hurdles race. Trammell his 13.17, just .01 off his own personal best to finish as the runner-up. The twosome went 1-2 last year as well.

Senior Demetria Washington was fifth in the 400m with a time of 51.59. Teammate Lisa Barber, battling the injury bug, was eighth at 53.90. USC volunteer coach Monique Hennagan, a Columbia native, was third with a time of 51.34.

“It was windy, but I was pleased with my finish,” said Washington.

Rising senior Corey Taylor ran a personal best 13.72 to finish sixth in his heat of the semi-finals of the 110m hurdles.

“Corey ran a great race. He kept attacking a didn’t back down,” said Frye.

Former Gamecock Dawn Ellerbe was the runner-up in the hammer, throwing 220′ 5. USC volunteer coach Melissa Morrison, who ran a 12.92 in the semi-finals, ran a 13.11 to finish seventh in the finals.
