Columbia, S.C. – The No. 13 University of South Carolina men’s soccer team opens the 2002 regular season on Friday, August 30 at 7:00 p.m. when they host Charleston Southern at Eugene E. Stone III Stadium. This marks the 13th meeting between the Gamecocks and Buccaneers, with USC leading 12-0.

South Carolina returns seven members of the 2001 squad which posted a 12-5-2 record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The 2002 schedule is comprised of eight teams that competed in the 2001 NCAA Tournament, including the 2001 national champions North Carolina. Charleston Southern is the first of eight home matches for the Gamecocks.

Friday night’s showdown is the second match of a double header with women’s soccer.
