COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina freshman midfielder Kayla Grimsley earned her second TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week selection after scoring all three goals for South Carolina last week, including the game-winning goal to defeat Kentucky on the road.
Grimsley’s honor comes after notching Carolina’s first individual multi-goal game of the season with her two goals against Kentucky. She then hit Carolina’s lone goal against Vanderbilt to move her into a tie for first in the SEC with 17 points courtesy of seven goals and three assists. She also leads the conference in shot percentage (.350). Her three-goal SEC weekend makes Grimsley just the second Gamecock to score three goals in one weekend of SEC competition – the other being Gamecock great Jennie Ondo who last performed the feat in 1999.
Grimsley was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com squad in the fourth week of the season, marking the first time a Gamecock earned the weekly honor. She is currently riding a four-match scoring streak with assists in both games last weekend and goals in both games this weekend. The four-game streak matches her career high.
South Carolina (8-2-3; 2-1-1 SEC) returns home this weekend when it hosts two teams from the Magnolia state in Mississippi State and Ole Miss. The Gamecocks and Bulldogs will kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday night with Sunday’s game against the Rebels scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
