COLUMBIA, S.C. – The volleyball Gamecocks hit the road after a brief two-match homestand to take on fifth-ranked Florida on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Stephen O’Connell Center. The match is being televised by Sun Sports TV.
South Carolina stands at 9-8 on the year with a 2-6 mark in Southeastern Conference play. Freshman Megan Laughlin earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after averaging 4.00 kills per game to go with three aces per match against Tennessee and Kentucky. The Garnet and Black downed the Lady Vols in four games before losing a four-game match to the Wildcats.
Florida is a perfect 15-0 on the season and sport an 8-0 league record. The reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Week wears the Blue and Orange, as Marcie Hampton received the award after averaging 5.50 kills per game against UK and UT last weekend. The Gators hold down the top of the conference statistics in hitting percentage, assists and kills.
As is the case with most SEC teams, Florida has dominated the series against the Gamecocks, taking 36 of 43 matches all-time. The Gators have lost to the Garnet and Black twice since Carolina joined the league. However, one of those times came in 2006, when the Gamecocks upset the Gators in four games at the Volleyball Competition Facility. USC has taking two matches in Gainesville, in 1984 and 1986.
Gametracker live stats will be provided for the match.
