CARMEL, IND. – Gamecock golfer Taylor Barrett shot a four-over 76 in the opening round of the 107th U.S. Women’s Amateur, however play for the second half of the field was suspended due to inclement weather.

The horns blew at 5:49 p.m., 33 minutes after play resumed following a 55-minute weather delay due to thunderstorms in the area.

Update: Play was suspended for the day at 7:15 p.m. with 13 players still on the course. Those players will resume at 7:30 a.m. with the second round beginning at 8:45 a.m.

Candace Schepperle led the field at the halfway point with a 67 (-5) at the par-72 Crooked Stick Golf Club. Jennifer Song and Mi Jung Hur both were tied for first at five-under through 15 holes when play was halted.

Barrett (York, S.C.) hit 12 pars and two birdies, but it was the fifth hole that gave the sophomore problems. After recording a bogey on the first hole, she double-bogeyed the par-5 fifth hole to sit at three strokes over par after playing the front nine. Barrett saw another double-bogey on the 16th hole, but she was able to register birdies on the 13th and 17th holes to end the round with a 76 (+4). She sat in a tie for 90th when play was halted for the second half of the field.

Tuesday continues the stroke play format with the low 64 scores advancing to match play on Wednesday. After four rounds of match play, the remaining two players will go head-to-head for 36 holes of match play for the Championship title on Sunday, Aug. 12.

Update: Barret will tee off from the 10th hole at 1:36 p.m. in Tuesday’s second round action.
