Brondby, Denmark – South Carolina incoming freshman golfer Erika Holmen (Gothenburg, Sweden) has been named to the Swedish National Nordic Team and will compete in the Nordic Team Championships, held August 3-5 in Denmark.

Holmen will participate with three other golfers on the Swedish Ladies team, which tees off Saturday in the second day of competition. They first compete against Norway’s Ladies team at 9:30 a.m. (local time) and conclude against Iceland’s Ladies team at 10 a.m. (local time). The championship is stroke play in a Foursome format in which players alternate playing the ball.

The Nordic Team Championship is open for amateurs and professionals. The players must be citizens of the country they represent. Play consists of eight categories – Boys (ages 13-18), Girls (ages 13-18), Men, Ladies, Men 35+, Ladies 35+, Senior Men 55+ and Seniors Ladies 50+. The aggregate scores from each category will determine the final result. First day competition consists of two pairs of four ball from each nation, second day competition consists of two pairs of Foursomes from each nation and the final day consists of four single players from each nation.

Holmen is currently ranked 18th in the Swedish Golf Federation rankings. She won the 2007 Kungsbacka Open and finished as the runner-up at the Sotenas Junior Open. A member of the Junior Elite Team of Gothenburg (Sweden), Holmen played in 18 events in 2006, posting 12 top-10 finishes.
