2007-08 South Carolina Men’s Golf Schedule

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina men’s golf coach Bill McDonald released the program’s 2007-08 schedule Monday. The Gamecocks will play in five events in the fall and six in the spring before postseason play begins.

Carolina again will open its season in at the Carpet Capital Invitational from Sept. 14-16 in Dalton, Ga. The Gamecocks next hit the road to Macon, Ga., for The Brickyard Collegiate, Oct. 7-9, before traveling to Jonesborough, Tenn., to compete in the Bank of America Intercollegiate at The Ridges. USC won the tournament in 2005 and will look to reclaim the title this season.

A week later, Carolina will compete in the Isleworth Invitational, Oct. 21-23, in Windermere, Fla., before finishing up the fall season at the Calloway Golf Collegiate Match Play in Greensboro, Ga., from Oct. 28-30.

South Carolina kicks off its spring season with familiar tournaments, beginning Feb. 17-19 at the John Hayt Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Verde Beach, Fla. USC is then scheduled to play in the Schenkel E-Z Go Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., March 14-16, where they finished in fourth place last season with two top 20 finishers. The Gamecocks travel to Charleston the next week, March 23-25, to participate in The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate before heading upstate March 28-30 for the Furman Intercollegiate. Carolina will also compete April 4-6 in the Augusta State Administaff Invitational to close out the regular season.

The SEC Championship this year will again be held at Frederica Club in Sea Island, Ga., April 18-20. The NCAA Regional Championships are May 15-17, and the NCAA Championship will be May 28-31 in West Lafayette, Ind. The Gamecocks won the NCAA West Regional in 2007 after entering as the No. 11 seed. Carolina finished 11th at the NCAA Championships, marking the second highest finish in school history.

McDonald is in his first season as Head Coach at South Carolina, the result of Puggy Blackmon taking on a new role as USC Director of Golf. McDonald’s team returns its entire roster from the 2006-07 season, including All-Americans Mark Anderson (2005) and George Bryan IV (2007) along with All-SEC performer Florian Fritsch.
