ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The South Carolina women’s soccer team looks to continue making history when they take on second-seeded Georgia Friday at 6 p.m. ET (5 p.m. CT) in an SEC Tournament semifinal match at the Orange Beach Soccer Complex. The Gamecocks (14-5-2) entered the tournament as the sixth seed and became the only lower seeded team to advance following Wednesday’s first round action. Live stats can be found at GamecocksOnline.com.

Carolina is making its second consecutive appearance in the tournament semifinals after defeating No. 15 Tennessee 2-0 Wednesday. The win marked the first ever for the Gamecocks against the Lady Vols and their first win at the SEC Tournament. The 2006 squad advanced on penalty kicks, making the match officially count as a draw. Wednesday’s win also marked Carolina’s third victory over a ranked opponent this season with all three going down as shutouts. The Gamecocks defeated then-No. 1 North Carolina 1-0 in the season opener and also defeated then-No. 25 Auburn 1-0 at Stone Stadium.

South Carolina will face its eighth ranked opponent this season in No. 13 Georgia, a team that defeated the Gamecocks 2-1 in double-overtime in the regular season. Georgia (16-2-2) is led by sophomore Carrie Patterson with 11 goals and six assists for 28 points. Defender Kelli Corless earned SEC Freshman of the Year honors, a feat Patterson earned last season, while head coach Patrick Baker was named the SEC Coach of the Year.

Carolina is led by senior Darcel Mollon who has 10 goals and three assists for 23 points. She became the first Gamecock to score 10 goals in a season and the first to surpass 20 points in a season since Jenni Ondo in 1999 (14 goals, 32 points). With a victory, Carolina will set a new school-record for wins in a season. Their current total of 14 victories matches the 1999 team for the current school record.

The winner of the Carolina-Georgia match will face the winner of the #1 Florida-#4 LSU semifinal match. The championship match will be played Sunday, Nov. 11, at 3:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. CT) and will be broadcast by Fox Sports Net.
