COLUMBIA – South Carolina senior Whitney Simons was named South Carolina’s Touchstone Energy Teammate of the Week in September, joining fellow Gamecocks Cory Boyd and Jasper Brinkley of the football team and Katy Biffle of the equestrian team, who also won the award in September. The program recognizes outstanding student-athletes from the University of South Carolina and Clemson University who show a commitment to their community.

Simons volunteers for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Harvest Hope, Toys for Tots, the National Down’s Syndrome Society and children’s hospitals. She also uses golf for outreach at Midlands Golfing for God and charity golf tournaments.

On the course this fall, Simons played in four of the team’s five events with a 76.56 stroke average. She was second on the team at the season-opening Cougar Classic, finishing tied for 35th place.
