Columbia, S.C.- – The South Carolina Equestrian team was defeated by the defending national champion Auburn Tigers. Despite the loss, the Gamecocks swept MVP honors with Sara Lowe- equitation on the flat; Kristen Terebesi- equitation over fences; Lindsay Williams- reining; and Rachel Sternoff- horsemanship. The Hunt Seat team owns a sterling 8-0 record while the Western team fell to 2-6.
At the end of the competition, USC and Auburn were tied at 10, but the Tigers edged the Gamecocks 1395.5-1386 in the raw score.
The Gamecocks defeated the Tigers 6-4 in the Hunt Seat division. Competing for South Carolina in equitation on the flat were Sara Lowe (Augusta, Ga.), Carly Babcock (Deer Harbor, Wash.), Carly Johns (Woodstock, Ga.), Kristen Terebesi (Glenmoore, Pa.), and Kelley Campbell (Keysville, Va.). In equitation over fences, the Gamecock riders were Ellen Hogate (St. Charles, Ill.), Terebesi, Sarah Stephens (Chalfont, Pa.), Megan Massaro (Summerfield, Fla.), and Nicole Bourgeois (Sherwood, Ore.)
In the Western division, riding for the Garnet and Black in horsemanship were Rachel Sternoff (Redmond, Wash.), Katy Biffle (Orange Grove, Texas), Allison Bradley (Lancaster, Calf.), Katie Grossnickle (Winona Lake, Ind.), and Kristina Papendick (Rapid City, S.D.). Competing for Carolina in reining were Lindsay Williams (Sand Springs, Okla.), Rebekah Roof (Lexington, S.C.), Sternoff, Bradley, and Papendick.
The Gamecocks will return to action Saturday, March 3 at 1:00 p.m. ET when they host Georgia at OneWood Farm in Blythewood.
