Baton Rouge, La. – The South Carolina women’s golf team will compete at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic this weekend, which will be played at the par-72, 6424-yard University Club in Baton Rouge, La. The tournament will feature 18 holes of play each day with live scoring on the Internet at Golfstat.com.

The field for this tournament includes No. 1 Duke, No. 5 Auburn, No. 7 Vanderbilt, No. 13 Wake Forest, No. 14 Tennessee, No. 17 Virginia, No. 22 North Carolina, Alabama, Augusta State, Birmingham Southern, College of Charleston, Furman, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Memphis, Mississippi State, NC State, Ole Miss and UNC-Wilmington.

Junior Camila Mori will play in the No. 1 spot for the Gamecocks after leading the team in the previous two tournaments. Jenna Pearson, Blythe Worley, Taylor Barrett and Bénédicte Toumpsin will also compete for the Gamecocks.

Last Time Out

No. 25 South Carolina finished in a three-way tie for seventh at the “Mo”Morial Invitational played at the par-72 Traditions Golf Club, finishing with a 54-hole score of 319-312-322=953 (+89).

Junior Camila Mori was Carolina’s top finisher, tying for 34th with an 82-76-81=239 (+23). Senior Jenna Pearson and Blythe Worley finished in a tie for 39th for the weekend while freshman Taylor Barrett tied for 51st at the event with an 83-78-82=243 (+27).

Tough LSU Classic Field

The Gamecocks will face one of the toughest regular season fields this weekend with seven teams ranked in this week’s GolfWeek poll. The field includes 30 players currently ranked in the top-100, the most ranked players the Gamecocks have competed against this season. Twenty opposing players were ranked at the Puerto Rico Classic and 17 at the “Mo”Morial Invitational.

Mori Continues Hot Streak

After pacing the Gamecocks finishing in tied for 12th place at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, junior Camila Mori again led South Carolina at the “Mo” Morial Invitational, carding a 239 for the weekend tied at 39th. Mori had not led the Gamecocks in any tournaments prior to carding a career-best 220 at this year’s Lady Puerto Rico Classic where she finished ahead of 15 players ranked in the top-100 in the nation at the time.

Toumpsin Returns To Action

After being forced to withdraw from second round action at the “Mo” Morial Invitational after injuring her right leg on her 14th hole of the day, freshman Bénédicte Toumpsin returned to action for Sunday’s final round and showed no ill effects from her injury, as she turned in the best round of any Gamecock Sunday with a six-over-par 78.

The teams will play 18 holes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All-three rounds begin at 8 a.m. CT, with Sunday’s round beginning by shotgun start
