The Basics

The South Carolina women’s golf team competes at the Liz Murphey Collegiate played at the par-71 UGA Golf Course in Athens, Ga., from March 23-25. The Gamecocks have competed at the Liz Murphey Collegiate for 13 consecutive years, placing as high as 3rd in 1995.

Of the 18 teams competing, nine are ranked among the top 25 teams in the nation, two of which are in the top five in the nation. In addition, 29 of the nation’s top 100 players are in the field.

Last Time Out

The South Carolina women’s golf team finished in ninth place at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic, held at the par-72 University Club. The Gamecocks scored a three-day total 310-297-300=907 (+43). Jenna Pearson was Carolina’s top finisher, tying for 12th with a 221 (+5).

Freshman Bénédicte Toumpsin tied for 31st place with a 226 (+10). Taylor Barrett finished tied for 52nd with an 232 (+16).

Juniors Blythe Worley and Camila Mori both finished tied for 68th with a 236 (+20) for the weekend.

Pearson Returns To Top-100

Senior Jenna Pearson jumped 20 spots to No. 86 in this week’s Golfweek rankings after a top-12 finish at the LSU/Cleveland Classic last weekend. Pearson scored a 221 (+5) to finish ahead of 22 players ranked at the time. She peaked at No. 36 earlier this season heading into the Lady Puerto Rico Classic the week of October 6.

South Carolina At Last Year’s Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

The Gamecocks return to the familiar UGA Golf Course as South Carolina finished sixth at last year’s Liz Murphey Collegiate at 63-over with a 317-309-301=927. Whitney Simons was the Gamecock leader at the event, finishing in a tie for 10th at nine-over with a 76-75-74=225. Jenna Pearson and Laura Raffo also competed at last year’s event with Pearon coming in at 17-over and Raffo at 19-over.
