AWENDAW, S.C. — The South Carolina men’s golf team fired an opening round 289 (+5) and sits in 10th place at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, played at Bulls Bay Golf Club (Par 71). The Gamecocks are just six shots out of third place with 36 holes remaining. The second round of the tournament is set for Monday with final round action slated for Tuesday.

Freshman George Bryan IV shot an opening round 69 (-2) to lead the Gamecocks. The Chapin, S.C., product recorded six birdies and is currently tied for eighth on the individual leader board. Junior Mark Anderson shot an eagle on the 13th hole and posted a one-over par 72 to put him in a tie for 28th.

Sophomore Mark Silvers was four-over par going into the final two holes of the day, but birdied 17 and 18 to finish with a two-over par 73; Silvers holds a share of 40th place.

Sophomores Allen Koon and Baker Elmore both fired four-over par 75s and sit in a tie for 53rd.

UCF and Florida State owns the top two spots in the team standings by a sizeable margin. The Golden Knights collectively finished the opening round 14-under par (270). The Seminoles are four shots back in second place after carding a 274 (-10). A pair of UCF golfers, Preston Brown and Greg Forest, shot 66 today and shares the top spot on the individual leader board.
