COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina rising junior Marci Robinson carded a 73 Wednesday and maintained her five-stroke lead after two rounds of the Columbia City Golf Championship at The University Club. Robinson, with a two-day 141 total, is in line to capture the 2002 crown a year after finishing in second place by just one stroke.

The third and final round gets underway Thursday morning on the Lady Gamecocks’ home course in Blythewood, a par 71, 5,277-yard layout.

Robinson, who shot a tournament-record, three-under 68 in Tuesday’s first round, had a birdie and three bogies in posting the two-over 73 Wednesday. She has a five stroke lead over three-time champion Cecilia Barksdale, who had an even-par 71 Wednesday and has a 146 two-day total. Kim Abbot is in third place at 147 while Lady Gamecock rising senior Kacy Thompson remains in fourth place at 151 after a four-over 75 Wednesday.

Thompson and Robinson recently completed the 2002 season for South Carolina, leading USC to its second-consecutive NCAA Championships appearance and the 2002 Southeastern Conference title.
