Sophomore setter Amy Pratt recently attended an NCAA leadership conference. Read what she had to say about her experience at the conference and what her plans are for the summer.
uscsports.com: Please tell us about the NCAA leadership conference you just returned from.
AP: It was a National Leadership Conference sponsored by the NCAA. Three student athletes from each university were nominated to submit an application and an essay. From those three applicants, one student was chosen to attend the conference. In all, there were about 300 student athletes in attendance. It was an incredible experience!!!
uscsports.com: What did you learn at the conference?
AP: It was great to meet other student athletes who have the same lifestyles and goals as you. Throughout the conference we found better ways to improve our leadership skills and we discussed issues that pertained to athletics and the universities. It was a trip I will never forget, and I hope to take everything that I learned back to our University, the SAAC organization and also to my team.
uscsports.com: What other plans do you have for the summer?
AP: I just finished with a sports broadcasting Maymester class…(CHARLIE MAC’S class….it was a great class I might add!) and now I am spending some time with my family in Daytona Beach. I will return to USC and I will begin working our camps and getting in shape for preseason!
uscsports.com: What are your expectations in volleyball for the upcoming season?
AP: Take everyday as if it were the last, and give 110% ALL OF THE TIME……and most of all WIN!
uscsports.com: Are you following the baseball team’s progress in the NCAA Championships and the College World Series?
AP: YES!!!! ‘GO COCKS!’
uscsports.com: What were your thoughts when you learned that you were named to the Dean’s List?
AP: I was very proud of myself. I worked really hard this semester!!
uscsports.com: What is your favorite thing about South Carolina?
AP: The friendly people.
uscsports.com: What is the biggest difference between Arizona and S.C.?
AP: WOW there are so many differences, but if I had to choose one, it would be the humidity (in SC) and the friendly people (in SC).
uscsports.com: Who is the most famous person you have ever met?
AP: Sammy Sosa and Jerry Springer.
