University of South Carolina freshman midfielder Jeff Scannella (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) has been named to the College Soccer News All-Freshman team, the online publication (www.collegesoccernews.com) announced today. Scannella, the Conference USA Freshman of the Year, is one of 33 players honored and appears on the second team.

Scannella started all 17 matches and scored 10 points on three goals and four assists in first season as a Gamecock. His four assists rank in the top 10 all-time for a freshman at Carolina.

Scannella made the all-Conference USA third team and earned a spot on the league’s all-Freshman team this season as well. A three-time NSCAA while in high school All-American, he participated in the United States residency program in 2003-04.
