ABOUT THE WEEK

SETTING THE SCENE: The South Carolina Gamecock volleyball team (10-9, 3-5 SEC) looks to end a three-match slide Friday when it hosts Mississippi (11-7, 3-5 SEC) at 6 p.m. in the Volleyball Competition Facility. Carolina then hosts Mississippi State on Sunday at 1 p.m. in a match set to be televised live by SEC-TV (FOX Sports Net South, FOX Sports Net Southwest, Sunshine Network).

ABOUT MISSISSIPPI: The Lady Rebels of Mississippi are coming off a 1-1 weekend that saw them defeat Auburn 3-1 and lose 3-0 to Florida. Ole Miss also owns SEC victories against Arkansas and Kentucky. Katie Kramer leads the Lady Rebels in kills per game with a 4.21 average and her hitting percentage is .223. Kristen Carroll is not far behind with figures of 3.23 and .253. Rachel Kieckhaefer holds down the setting duties and averages 12.15 assists per game and 2.61 digs. Tara Langley tops the squad in digs with 3.45.

ABOUT MISSISSIPPI STATE: The Mississippi State Bulldogs snapped a six-match losing streak by defeating Auburn 3-0 in their last contest. MSU also holds a victory in conference play against rival Mississippi. Christina Jucan leads the Bulldog attack with 3.87 kills per game and a .260 hitting percentage. Orshi Kriegel tallies 3.71 kills per game while hitting .244 and adding 2.82 digs. Jucan contributes on the defensive side as well with 2.79 digs per game. MSU’s setter is Eva Kriegel, who averages 11.16 assists per game.

THE MISSISSIPPI SERIES: South Carolina has won 17 in a row over Mississippi and leads the all-time series 19-6. The Lady Rebels’ last win over the Gamecocks came Nov. 27, 1992, by a 3-1 score in the SEC Tournament in Birmingham, Ala. USC is 8-0 against the Lady Rebels since the VCF opened in 1996.

THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SERIES: The Gamecocks have claimed 14 of the last 15 meetings with Mississippi State and lead the all-time series 18-6. USC is 10-2 in homes matches with the Bulldogs and 6-1 in its current facility.
