Home Works of South Carolina held its fall One-Day Blitz repairing homes around the greater Columbia area on Saturday, Oct. 21. One home in the Cayce area was given a major face lift by a team of dedicated University of South Carolina student-athletes and Home Works contractors working all day to complete the list of repairs.
Beginning at 7:30 a.m. and finishing the work up at around 6 p.m., the house was given a new coat of paint, flooring and interior structural repairs. Members of the USC women’s tennis, equestrian and football teams were among those volunteering. Lunch was provided to all volunteers by Jimmy Johns.
Every year, Carolina student-athletes from different athletic teams coordinate team projects by taking responsibility to serve as goodwill ambassadors not only for their respective programs, but also for the athletics department and the University of South Carolina as a whole. In addition, a number of student athletes elect to perform individual community service hours in a variety of areas. The University of South Carolina Athletics Department is committed to providing volunteer opportunities for student athletes to connect with people in the surrounding community. The greater Columbia community is invited to utilize members of Team Gamecocks to serve as role models and willing volunteers.
