ABOUT THE WEEK

  • The South Carolina volleyball team opens Southeastern Conference play this weekend hosting Auburn at 7 p.m. on Friday and No. 6 Florida at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. The Gamecocks are looking for their first home victory this year after suffering three losses last weekend, two of which came in five games.
  • Auburn is 8-3 after winning a tournament hosted by South Alabama last weekend. The Tigers defeated Samford, Southeastern Louisiana and South Alabama to win the event. Other victories for Auburn include Louisiana-Monroe, Prairie View A&M, Kennesaw State and Virginia Tech.
  • Sixth-rated Florida is 7-1 after recording a 3-1 triumph over Florida State on Tuesday. The Gators have defeated two ranked teams this year in then-No. 24 Utah and then-No. 7 Hawai’i. Florida also has defeated South Florida, Colorado, Central Florida and Illinois State. UCLA handed the Gators their only loss so far by a 3-0 score.
  • South Carolina owns a 12-match winning streak against Auburn and is 14-6 overall versus the Tigers. Auburn’s last triumph over the Gamecocks came Oct. 13, 1995, on the Tigers’ home floor.
  • Florida is 35-6 overall against the Gamecocks and 30-1 since South Carolina first competed in the Southeastern Conference. The Gators have won 25 straight over the Gamecocks and have posted shutouts in the past 10 match-ups. USC’s one win in the conference series came Nov. 13, 1994, in Columbia, S.C., by a 3-1 score.
  • Gamecock fans can use their Carolina Alumni Association card to receive $3 admission to the Auburn match. Wearing a USC camp T-shirt is good for $1 admission to the Florida contest, while presenting a USC-Wofford football ticket stub is worth $3 admission.
