University of South Carolina strength & conditioning coach Pat Moorer has been presented with the certification of Master Strength and Conditioning Coach, awarded by the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa).
This is the highest honor that can be achieved in the coaching profession of Strength and Conditioning. It represents professionalism, knowledge, experience, expertise, as well as longevity in the field. Moorer is one of just 57 individuals with this level of certification and corresponding title of distinction.
In order to receive this honor, an individual must meet the following criteria: 1) Hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree; 2) Be a currently practicing, full-time strength & conditioning coach on the collegiate level; 3) Hold current membership in the collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa); 4) Hold the CSCCa Certification – SCCC (Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified); and 5) Be a full-time, collegiate, and/or professional strength & conditioning coach for a minimum of 12 years.
Moorer has spent the past seven seasons at South Carolina, joining the staff in June, 1999 after having a similar role at the University of Illinois. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Performance from Florida in 1989. He played inside linebacker for four seasons, was the SEC Freshman of the Year in 1986, led the Gators in tackles in 1988 and 1989 and was the team captain as a senior.
After graduating from Florida, Moorer played linebacker for the San Diego Chargers in 1990 before moving to the Frankfurt (German) Galaxy of the World Professional League in 1991-92. Moorer returned to Florida in 1992 as assistant strength and conditioning coach and was named coordinator of strength and conditioning in 1995 before taking the position at Illinois in 1997.
