The South Carolina men’s golf team shot a team total of 309 Friday in the first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate, played at The Farm Golf Club (7,002 yards — Par 72) in Rocky Face, Ga. Carolina sits in 18th place entering Saturday’s second round.
Junior Warren Thomas and sophomores Florian Fritsch and Allen Koon led the Gamecocks by shooting 77 in the first round. The trio is tied for 67th on the individual leader board. Freshman George Bryan IV, who made his collegiate debut today, fired a 78 and sits in a tie for 75th. Classmate Patrick Rada, who also played in his first collegiate event today, rounded out the Carolina lineup with a first-round 79 and is tied for 83rd entering Saturday’s second round.
Alabama is first among the 18-team field after shooting 12-under par 276. Darren Blair of North Carolina State holds the individual lead after firing a seven-under par 65 Friday.
