Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s basketball team led all Southeastern Conference women’s basketball programs and matched a team record by placing eight players on the 2005-06 SEC Winter Sports Academic Honor Roll. The honor roll recognizes all student-athletes who have completed at least one academic year and posted a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the Spring, 2005, Summer 2005 and Fall, 2005 terms.

The Gamecocks, who set a new team record with a 3.347 combined grade point average during the Spring, 2005 semester, were represented on the 2005-06 SEC Winter Sports Academic Honor Roll by sophomore Ilona Burgrova (exercise science), junior Lea Fabbri (economics), senior Olga Gritsaeva (sport and entertainment management), junior Shannel Harris (finance), junior Larissa Kulcsar (international business), junior Lauren Simms (exercise science), junior Iva Sliskovic (international studies) and redshirt sophomore Lakesha Tolliver (sport and entertainment management). Freshmen are not eligible for the SEC Academic Honor Roll, but rookies Brionna Dickerson (business) and Demetress Adams (psychology) both maintain GPAs above 3.0 as well. The SEC releases its Freshman Honor Roll during the summer.

The SEC Academic Honor Roll is familiar territory for many Carolina women’s basketball players, as Fabbri, Gritsaeva, Harris, Kulcsar, Simms and Sliskovic have all earned the recognition three times during their career, with Tolliver a two-time honoree. Carolina has averaged 7.67 women’s basketball players on the SEC Winter Sports Academic Honor Roll during the last three seasons, which matches Florida for the highest total in the league during that time.
