COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina senior golfer Eirik Johansen has earned PING All-Southeast Region honors, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Wednesday in conjunction with the start of the NCAA Championship in Sunriver, Ore. This marks the third time Johansen has been recognized in four seasons at Carolina.

The Gamecocks’ team captain, Johansen is currently playing in his 50th and final collegiate event, the 2006 NCAA Championship, which runs May 31-June 3 at Crosswater Golf Club in Sunriver, Ore. In his four seasons at USC, he has competed in every event the Gamecocks have entered. The Stavanger, Norway, product is also a three-time all-SEC selection and a 2005 Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar. Johansen earned honorable mention All-America honors as a freshman in 2002-03.

In 2005-06, Johansen has recorded six top-10 finishes, bringing his career total to 20. The placed in a tie for fourth at the TOPY Cup (Sept. 16-18) and was also fourth on the individual leader board at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. A sport and entertainment management major at USC, Johansen recently made the CoSIDA Academic All-District III At-Large team. Johansen is one of 17 players on the All-Southeast Region list, which includes12 players from the SEC.
