COLUMBIA, S.C. – In the latest poll by Trackwire.com, the South Carolina Gamecocks placed both track and field teams in the top 10 spots in the nation. The Women’s team, the 2002 SEC Champions, vaulted into second place, ahead of Louisiana State and Southern Cal. The men’s team is currently ranked ninth in the nation after finishing seventh at the SEC Championships. That ninth spot is behind five SEC teams that are ranked in the top four. Tennessee, LSU, Arkansas, are in the top three spots with Florida and Mississippi State tied for fourth place.
The South Carolina women won its second SEC Outdoor Track and Field title in four years last weekend with the title coming down to the last event. USC’s men were seventh. Junior Antoinette Wilks won the women’s MVP title – finishing as the runner-up in the long and triple jumps and third in the heptathlon.
