COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina men’s basketball signee Tim Pickett’s appeal for transfer to the University of South Carolina was denied Wednesday by the Southeastern Conference’s Executive Committee. Pickett will not attend USC this fall.

Southeastern Conference rules require an individual attending junior college to complete at least three-consecutive semesters at his or her last institution prior to transferring. Pickett recently completed his second semester at Indian River Community College after attending Daytona Beach Community College as a freshman.

“The situation with Tim Pickett is both unfortunate and regrettable,” said Gamecock Head Coach Dave Odom. “We explored every conceivable avenue that might lead to his matriculation to USC, but it just wasn’t meant to be. We’re disappointed that this ruling will prevent Tim from coming to Carolina. He is a fine player and a deserving young man. While his plans are incomplete, our staff will assist him in relocating and finding a place that is right for his situation. We’ve already had calls from several notable programs who have expressed interest in him.”

Pickett averaged 19.5 points in the state semifinals and finals and led Indian River to a 20-11 record last season.
