Two former South Carolina soccer players helped the U.S. Men’s National Team to a dominating 4-0 win over Guatemala at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, Sunday afternoon. Brad Guzan (2003-04) earned his first national team appearance with a start at goalkeeper while veteran Josh Wolff (1995-97) also started and helped set up the second of four U.S. goals.

Sunday’s match was part of the U.S. team’s continued preparations for the FIFA World Cup this summer. Guzan and Wolff have both spent the last six weeks in training camp with the National Team at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

At South Carolina, Guzan started every match of his two-year career and recorded 13 shutouts. In 2004, he was a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, awarded annually to college soccer’s national player of the year, before opting to turn pro after his sophomore season. In the 2005 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, Guzan became the highest goalkeeper ever selected when CD Chivas USA took him with the second overall pick.

Wolff has completed his ninth season in the MLS and his third season with the Kansas City Wizards. He scored 30 total points on 10 goals and 10 assists. A member of the U.S. National Team since 1998, Wolff played in the 2000 Olympics and the 2002 World Cup. Wolff was an All-South Region selection for the Gamecocks in 1997. He scored 50 points on 21 goals and eight assists in his three seasons at South Carolina.
