Lexington, Ky. – The South Carolina men’s tennis team concluded play at the 2006 Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships in Lexington, Ky. on Saturday. Sophomore Yevgeny Supeko fell in round of 32 singles action, while junior Pedro Rodrigues picked up a pair of wins in the singles consolation bracket.

Supeko, a sophomore transfer from Texas A&M, defeated Auburn’s Pawel Dilaj in the opening round of singles play on Friday. He could not hold on against 23rd-ranked Eric Claesson of Ole Miss on Saturday however, and dropped the round of 32 match 6-2, 6-1.

Rodrigues, who fell to No. 1 seed John Isner on Friday, came back and cruised to a pair of 6-4, 6-1 wins over sophomores Pierre Moullion (Mississippi State) and Terence Nugent (Auburn) in the consolation bracket on Saturday at the Lexington Tennis Club.

The Gamecocks’ doubles tandem of Supeko and junior Dmitry Babenko fell in round of 16 doubles action late Friday night, coming up on the short end of an 8-3 match against defending NCAA Champions Isner and Antonio Ruiz of Georgia.

USC returns to the court to open the 2006 dual match season next Saturday, Jan. 28, when they take on Troy and Wofford in a doubleheader at the USC Indoor Facility. The courts are located inside the USC Field House, on the corner of Whaley and South Marion streets. The match against the Trojans begins at 10 a.m., followed by a 3 p.m. contest against the Terriers.
