Auburn, Ala. – The South Carolina equestrian team claimed their second victory of the season when defeating the Auburn Tigers by seven and-a-half points on Saturday, November 5th in Auburn, Ala.

“It feels great to get a solid win on the road,” Coach Boo Duncan said. “Auburn is a competitive team and they gave us all we could handle. We have worked really hard this semester and we are excited to end our fall season with a road win against Auburn.”

The Gamecocks defeated the Tigers 1177 to 1169.5, with USC sealing the win with a 20-point margin in the hunt seat division. The hunt seat riders defeated all of their opponents in all rounds except one. Senior Tara Brothers led the way for the Gamecocks dominating her opponent, Kelly Gottfried, in Equitation over fences by six and defeating Cassie McEnroe by three points in Equitation on the flat, claiming the high score in both events. Gamecock juniors Carly Johns, Ellen Hogate, Kelley Campbell, sophomore Kristen Terebesi, and freshmen Sarah Stephens and LIndsey Pace also captured wins for South Carolina.

The western team lost to Auburn by a score of 573.5 to 561, but still earned enough points to significantly contribute to the Gamecocks seven and-a-half point-victory. The Gamecocks’ western riders had a strong performance in horsemanship finishing up just two and-a-half points behind Auburn. South Carolina sophomore Allison Bradley led the Gamecocks by winning the point spread award when defeating opponent Katelen Ream by four and a-half points. Sophomore Katy Biffle had the top score for the Gamecocks in reining defeating her opponent Kimberly Tidwell by one.

The Gamecocks are now 2-1 in hunt seat, 2-1 in western and 2-1 overall. They will now break until January, when they compete at the Big Eight Western Tournament at Texas A&M on January 27th and 28th.
