The University of South Carolina equestrian team travels to Athens, Ga. Friday to compete in the Big Eight English Tournament. The University of Georgia is hosting the inaugural event at the Animal Science Arena on South Milledge Avenue.

This is the first tournament of its kind. South Carolina will be competing against Baylor, Fresno State, Georgia, New Mexico State, Okalahoma State, Texas A&M, and South Dakota State.

The 2005 national champions competed in their first competition September 23, 2005, in which they dominated over the University of Kentucky Wildcats. They are looking to go into this tournament with the same intensity.

In the competition against Kentucky, the Gamecocks came up with the win in both the Equitation on the flat and Horsemanship with scores of 303 to 284.5 in Equitation and 307 to 292.5 in Horsemanship. USC defeated Kentucky with a total of 1224.5 points to Kentucky’s 1148.5.
