The University of South Carolina equestrian team will host a walk on try out meeting Tuesday at 3pm at the Roost Conference Room. Athletes interested will need to bring a pen or pencil with them when they come and they MUST attend the meeting if they want to be considered for the team. Actual try outs will be held Thursday, August 18 from 2-4 PM at One Wood Farm in Blythewood. Requirements are listed below.
Requirements:
Full time undergraduate USC student
Proof of medical insurance
Proper Riding attire
Ability to run a mile in less than 10 minutes
Space on the team is VERY limited. It is preferred that interested students have extensive experience showing in one or more of the following divisions.
In USEF or affiliate:
3′ Children’s
3′ Equitation
3’6″ Juniors
3’6″ Equitation
In AQHA:
Western Pleasure
Western Riding Trail
Horsemanship
Reining
working cow horse.
In NRHA:
Reining
Expect the following in tryouts:
The possibility of riding multiple horses in either hunt seat equitation, western reining and/or horsemanship.
Equestrian team requirements:
Dedication – the equestrian team is second only to academics. Weekly commitment of up to 20 hours including meetings, workouts, practices, and competition. Maintaining a good GPA. Please attend the meeting for more information.
