Pinehurst, N.C. – – South Carolina women’s golfers Whitney Simons and Laura McCaslin faced each other Thursday in the second round of match play at the 103rd annual North and South Women’s Amateur Championship played at Pinehurst Resort, with Simons claiming a 7 & 5 win over her Gamecock teammate to advance to the third round. Simons went on to face Molly Birmingham of Cornelius, N.C., in the third round played later in the day, suffering a 4 & 3 setback.

In the first round played Wednesday, Simons won a playoff over Charleston’s Angie Hill on the 21st hole, with McCaslin claiming a 2 & 1 win over Lauren Harling of Laurinburg, N.C.
