Columbia, S.C. – Junior Davis Cup Home Page

The 2005 Wachovia Junior Davis Cup was moved to the USC Indoor Tennis Facility on Sunday, July 31st due to inclement weather. Main draw matches were allowed to begin play at the indoor facility. The consolation matches were put back on the court at approximately 7pm at the Columbia Tennis Center.

Texas, the No. 1 seed in the tournament defeated Middle States 6-1. The Texas-Middle States match was moved indoors right after the two teams began their doubles play. Texas swept the doubles action to take a 1-0 lead into singles. In singles, Texas managed to win five of the six matches. Reid Carleton claimed the only point for Middle States with a 6-4,3-6,7-5 victory over Conor Pollock of Texas.

Play was resumed outdoors for the other matches as Texas and Middle States was allowed to finish their match indoors. At approximately 1:00pm, rain forced the matches to be stopped once again and this time forcing some of the matches to be stopped until 7pm. Matches that were played indoors were stopped when one of the teams clinched the victory.

Southern California and Missouri Valley was the second completed match of the day. Southern Cal took two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 edge into singles. They would then clinch the win with three straight wins in singles. Results at the time of the release are posted below.

The 2005 Wachovia Junior Davis Cup will continue tomorrow starting at 8:00am at the Sam Daniel Tennis Center, Columbia Tennis Center, and the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center. All championship matches will be played at Sam Daniels while back draw contest will be continued at the other two sites.
