Columbia, S.C. –
The South Carolina women’s cross country team is set to begin their 2005 season with the Gamecock Invitational, next Friday, September 2, at Owens Field in Columbia. The 10-school event begins at 6:30 p.m., and will feature USC, The Citadel, Francis Marion, Georgia Southern, Western Carolina, UNC-Asheville, College of Charleston, Savannah State, Wofford, and Clemson.
USC avenged a loss to Clemson in last year’s Gamecock Invitational with a win at Clemson the following weekend. Carolina will make that trip again this season, on Sept. 10, followed by trips to the Winthrop Invitational (Sept. 17), the Great American Cross Country Meet (Sept. 24), Auburn (Oct. 8), and will conclude their regular season at the Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute, Indiana on Oct. 15.
The postseason for the Gamecocks begins with the SEC Championships in Baton Rouge, La. on Oct. 29, followed by the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Nov. 12 in Greenville, N.C. and the NCAA Championships on Nov. 21 in Terre Haute.
