Athens, Ga. – The 2005 season was full of late-match drama for Carolina, and it took just three days for the drama to revive in the 2005-06 year, when Supeko and Bram ten Berge of Ole Miss were serve for serve with the players trading one-break set wins at 6-4 to begin their quarterfinal match at the Dan Magill Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Georgia. However, ten Berge would gain the upper hand in the final set of the match, going up two breaks on Supeko and never looking back, winning the match 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles action, Adler and Otani, who were 1-1 together in 2004-05, fell to the same mark in 2005-06 with an 8-3 loss to Drew Bailey and Maciek Sykut of Florida State, who followed up that win with an 8-6 win in the quarters to advance to Monday’s semifinals.

Knorr, who led the 2004 team in singles victories and advanced to the NCAA Doubles Championships with teammate Pedro Rodrigues in 2005, pushed his singles record to 2-1 on the year with a straight-set 6-1, 6-3 win over James Eason of The Citadel.

Except for senior captain Tom Eklund, the Gamecocks will take the next two weeks off from competition, resuming their fall campaign with the 2005 USC Fall Invitational, October 14-16, in Columbia. Eklund will hit the courts for his first competitive match of 2005-06 when he travels to Tulsa, Okla. for the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships. Eklund qualified for the main draw via his current national ranking of 15, and his performance in 2005, when he helped lead the Gamecocks to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen and appeared in the NCAA Singles Championships.
