Columbia, SC – The University of South Carolina men’s golf team struggled in round three, dropping two spots and finishing in a tie for 10th with Ole Miss today at the 2002 Southeastern Conference Championships in St. Simmons, Ga. South Carolina fired a three-round total of 896.

No. 12 ranked Auburn University shot a final-round 290 to finish with a three-day total of 857 to win SEC Men’s Golf Championships at Sea Island Golf Club Seaside Course. The Tigers’ 857 (285-282-290) was seven shots better than second place Florida, who shot 286 on Sunday and finished with a three-day total of 864. Georgia shot a 284 on Sunday to finish in third with a total of 866.

Cracking the top ten was Gamecock Martin Rominger who led USC with an eighth place finish after firing a third-round score of 73. His total of 216 earned him his fourth top ten finish of the season.

Playing in his first SEC Championships, Alex Hamilton shot 223 to tie for 31st. Brent Delahoussaye, who shot the lowest round for USC on Saturday (69), shot 80 in Sunday’s round to fall to 36th with a three-day score of 225.

Johan Kok finished 55th while Nash Elliot placed 57th for the Gamecocks.

The tournament’s individual medalist was Florida senior Camilo Benedetti. The senior from Medellin, Colombia, carded the best round of the day with a final-round two-under-par 68 to finish at even-par 210.
