GREENVILLE, SC –
The South Carolina women’s golf team shot a 325 Friday and stands in 15th place after one round of the Lady Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Course. Auburn and Wake Forest shot identical 11-over 299 scores Friday and are tied for first place after 18 holes on the par 72, 5,984-yard course.
The second of three rounds gets underway at 8 a.m. Saturday.
South Carolina junior All-American Kristy McPherson again is leading the South Carolina attack, as the Conway, S.C., native fired a five-over 77 and stands in 25th place after 18 holes. However, the remainder of the Lady Gamecocks failed to score in the 70s, as sisters Kacy (junior) and Kory (sophomore) Thompson are tied for 74th place at 10-over 82. Rounding out the Carolina contingent are junior Adrienne Gautreaux – playing for individual honors only – (83, T80th place), sophomore Marci Robinson (84, T88th) and freshman Tiffany Catafygioto (85th, T94th).
Auburn and Wake Forest have three-stroke leads over Ohio State and Louisiana State, who fired 14-over 302 scores and are tied for third place. Texas Christian (304) rounds out the top five with South Carolina 21 strokes out of the top five after its 325 first-day score.
Individually, LSU’s Meredith Duncan and Nuria Clau of Wake Forest are tied for the lead at even-par 72 with the pair being the only individuals to shot at par.
