COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s golf team sits in seventh place following the second round of the 2005 Southeastern Conference Championship Saturday at Sea Island Golf Club, the Seaside Course (Par 70 — 7,005 Yards) in St. Simons Island, Ga.

Senior Alex Hamilton continues to pace the Gamecocks after shooting a four-over par 74 to tie for 11th on the individual leaderboard. The SEC Championship will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday.

As a team, Carolina fired a second-round score of 300 and holds a score of 598 (+20) through 36 holes. Florida (586, +12) took the team lead from Kentucky. The Gators are in first with a score 586, followed by Auburn in second at 591. UK is one stroke out of second and in sole possession of third with a two-day total of 592.

Hamilton followed his first-round 73 with a 74 today to move to seven-over par for the tournament. The Aiken, S.C., product will look for his second straight top-10 finish at the SEC Championship on Sunday. Hamilton led USC a season ago by tying for fifth place.

Junior West Streib, who shot a second-round 75, is tied for 16th at nine-over par for the tournament. Freshman Mark Adnerson shot 78 on Saturday to put him in at tie for 27th. Junior Eirik Johansen shaved four strokes off his score on Friday, carding a 74, which left in a tie for 31st and freshman Warren Thomas moved up one spot and into a tie for 44th following a round of 77.

Georgia’s Richard Scott was able to hang on to the top spot on the individual leader board. He is one-over par.
