Columbia, S.C. – – For the second consecutive day, South Carolina freshman Caroline Rominger sits atop the leaderboard at the Lady Gamecock Classic. Rominger’s 72-76=148 matches New Mexico’s Kailin Downs’ 75-73=148 for the top spot after the completion of Saturday’s second round, played at the University Club.
As a team, South Carolina is seven strokes off the lead with a 313-315=628. No. 13 New Mexico leads the pack with a 308-313=621, and No. 14 LSU is second with a 309-316=625.
Playing in windy conditions yet again, nobody in the field finished with a score under par. The nation’s 12-ranked player, Downs led the way Saturday with a one-over 73.
Outside of Rominger’s 76, other Gamecocks competing are senior Tiffany Catafygiotu, who is in 17th with an 81-79=160, sophomore Jenna Pearson, who is tied with Catafygiotu in 17th with an identical 81-79=160, junior Erica Battle, who is in 24th with a 79-82=161 and junior Laura McCaslin, who is in 29th with an 81-81=162.
Carolina freshman Whitney Simons is in 24th with a 73-88=161 to lead all players playing as individuals. Fellow Gamecock freshmen Laura Raffo and Blythe Worley are also competing as individuals, with the two players deadlocked in 35th. After two days, Raffo sits at 83-81=164, while Worley is at 84-80=164.
Final round action begins with a shotgun start at 9 p.m. tomorrow.
