Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina women’s soccer players Kimmy Criss and Amanda Thurber have each been named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District III University Division Women’s Soccer team. Both Criss and Thurber will represent the district on the national ballot. Criss, a junior from Knoxville, Tenn., owns a 4.0 GPA in accounting while Thurber, a junior as well from Fayetteville, Ga., has compiled a 3.967 GPA in exercise science.

Criss is the lone member of the first team Academic All-District to have put together a cumulative 4.0 GPA. Criss served as co-captain for her junior season with the Gamecocks and was a member of last season’s SEC Academic Honor Roll. Criss also volunteered with the Lexington Soccer Club and is a four-time honoree on the President’s List.

Thurber played in 19 of 20 matches for USC this year and scored two goals for four points. She has been named to the President’s List three times as well as the Dean’s List once. Thurber has also contributed as a member of Team Gamecocks. Thurber was a Homeworks volunteer, helping rebuild and repair homes of the elderly, visited Children’s Hospital and cancer patients at Richland Memorial and has volunteered with the Lexington County Soccer Club.

The 2004 Academic All-America women’s soccer teams will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004. The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs: football, women’s volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s track and field/cross coutnry, women’s track and field/cross country, men’s at-large and women’s at-large.
