South Carolina volleyball’s match against Notre Dame on Sunday is the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s (AVCA) National Match of the Week and will air on CSTV. The match is a part of CSTV’s weekly Sunday Night Spikes series which airs a Division I volleyball match each week. The Gamecocks’ match will air on a four-hour tape delay basis at 6 p.m. (ET). In Columbia, CSTV is channel 150 on Time Warner Cable. Nationally, fans can also see the match on DirecTV, channel 610.
South Carolina are currently 5-2 and return all six starters from last season. Sophomore outside hitter Shonda Cole leads the Gamecocks with 4.21 kills, 2.00 digs and 0.79 blocks per game. Lynae Vanden Hull, a RS-sophomore right side/opposite hitter, has a .299 average with 2.67 kills per game. Katelyn Panzau, a sophomore setter, contributes 8.75 assists, 2.79 digs and 1.29 kills per game for South Carolina, while junior middle blocker Lauren Ford holds a team-high 1.12 block average and averages 2.38 kills per game. South Carolina’s only losses on the season have been to ACC opponents Wake Forest and Duke, which combine for a 10-3 overall record.
Notre Dame returns three starters and its libero from last year’s NCAA Tournament team, including three AVCA All-America honorable mention selections in Emily Loomis, Lauren Brewster and Lauren Kelbley. As a team, Notre Dame averages 3.16 blocks per game and holds opponents to a .174 team attack percentage. Two of the Fighting Irish’s three losses came at the hands of eighth-ranked Nebraska to open the season.
