JONESBORO, Tenn. –
The University of South Carolina golf team opens its season this weekend — Sat.-Sunday, Sept. 11-12 — at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesboro, Tennessee.
The Gamecocks enter the season ranked 20th. They will be competing among some of the top ranked programs in the country in Tennessee, including No. 9 Clemson, No. 17 TCU, No. 22 Oklahoma and No. 24 Tennessee. Wake Forest, Duke, Kansas, LSU, Florida St., North Carolina, East Tennessee St., Alabama, Virginia, and Virginia Tech round out the field of teams.
The Gamecocks return a very formidable roster that includes defending South Carolina Amateur Champion, Alex Hamilton and Eirick Johansen, who finished third at this year’s International European Amateur. Along with Hamilton and Johansen, senior Jake Thompson, juniors Robert Svensson and West Strieb, and freshman Warren Thomas make up what should be a very competitive squad.
South Carolina will be in action next weekend at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Georgia.
