Columbia, SC –
The University of South Carolina and track and field head coach Curtis Frye announced Wednesday the new addition of pole vault coach Rusty Shealy, of Cayce, SC.

Shealy, director of Carolina Exteme Pole Vault, one of the nation’s finest pole vault clubs located in Cayce, vaulted for USC in the early 1980s and was the 1999, 2001 and 2002 USATF state and regional master’s pole vault champion.

“We’re glad to have Rusty onboard. He’s a great addition to our program,” Frye said.

Shealy has been the director and head coach of Carolina Extreme since 1998 and has since coached dozens of athletes sent to him by both high school and college coaches. Several of Shealy’s athletes have held top national rankings and have been world team members.

“I’m definitely excited about it,” Shealy said about his new position. “It’s a dream come true to take what we’ve done on a junior level to the collegiate level with the level of conditioning being so much better on a collegiate level. The techniques that we’ve been able to teach; it’s exciting to think about the possibilities.”
