COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Kevin Braswell hit a 17-foot jumper with 2.2 seconds left, leading No. 19 Georgetown to a 70-68 victory over South Carolina on Thursday night.

Braswell, in foul trouble most of the game, had tied the game at 68 with a free throw with 47.7 seconds left. He finished with 13 points on 6-for-9 shooting and five assists.

Mike Sweetney had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Hoyas (6-1).

South Carolina (5-3) was led by Jamel Bradley’s 16 points. Tony Kitchings added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Gamecocks.

Neither team led by more than five points. The game included 24 lead changes, including a 3{-minute stretch in the second half when the lead changed nine times on 11 possessions.

Georgetown relied on the inside play of Sweetney and Wesley Wilson, who scored 19 points.

The Hoyas shot 54.9 percent (28-of-51), and overcame 21 turnovers. South Carolina shot 47.3 percent (26-of-55).

Georgetown pushed its lead to four points in the second half, snapping a 57-all tie on a jumper by Gerald Riley and a short shot by Drew Hall for a 61-57 lead.

Marius Petravicius then hit a layup and was fouled with 1:59 left, cutting South Carolina’s deficit to 65-63. He missed the free throw, but Tony Kitchings hit a putback that tied the game at 65.

Wilson then hit both ends of a 1-in-1 to give Georgetown a 67-65 lead. Aaron Lucas’ 3-pointer put South Carolina ahead 68-67 with 1:06 left before Braswell’s free throw tied the game.

Georgetown was plagued by foul trouble. Braswell picked up his fourth foul with 17:04 left as Bradley drew a charge. Forward Harvey Thomas went to the bench with his fourth foul with 16:13 left, and reserve guard Drew Hall drew his fourth with 9:10 left.

The Hoyas led 35-30 at halftime. They shot 58.3 percent (14-of-24) to South Carolina’s 34.6 percent (9-of-26) in the first half, but had 13 turnovers. The Gamecocks shot 11-for-11 from the line in the first half, but missed both their attempts in the second half.

The Gamecocks opened the second half on a 7-0 run, sparked by a 3-pointer from Bradley. Bradley also hit a behind-the-back reverse layup to give South Carolina the lead at 37-35.
